Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Sheet Metal Designer to produce accurate models, shop drawings, and flat patterns for fabrication. This role converts drawings, sketches, and concepts into burn-ready, form-ready, and weld-ready files. The ideal candidate is familiar with industrial sheet metal, plate fabrication, and small structural assemblies, supporting both standard and custom project needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Model and design components such as: Chutes, Transitions, Dust collection ductwork and hoods, tanks, hoppers, bins, silos, elbows, reducers, and specialty fabrications.
· Create accurate flat patterns with proper bend allowances and deductions.
· Prepare fabrication-ready drawings including part details, assemblies, BOMs, and cut lists.
· Generate CNC-ready files for plasma, laser, or waterjet cutting.
· Design small staircases, platforms, mezzanines, ladders, and supports.
· Ensure structural components meet fabrication standards and design intent (with engineering input as needed).
· Produce clear shop drawings with weld symbols, cut lengths, and material callouts.
· Work closely with project managers, engineers, and fabricators to clarify design needs.
· Optimize designs for ease of fabrication, welding, and assembly.
· Interpret customer drawings and specifications accurately.
· Support shop personnel during layout, fit-up, and fabrication.
· Maintain organized document control, revision history, and project files.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Proficiency in CAD programs such as Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
· Strong understanding of sheet metal forming, rolling, welding, and fabrication processes.
· Experience designing sheet metal components and small structural assemblies.
· Ability to develop accurate flat patterns with correct bend allowances.
· Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, prints, and fabrication tolerances.
· Experience in heavy fabrication (tanks, hoppers, platforms, industrial ducting).
· Familiarity with CNC programming for plasma/laser cutting.
· Knowledge of dust collection or material handling systems.
· Experience with 3D scanning and stitching point clouds together is preferred but not required.
· Exposure to GD&T and weld detailing standards.
· Strong mechanical and spatial reasoning
· Fabrication-minded problem solving
· Clear communication between office and shop
· Ability to manage multiple deadlines
· High accuracy and attention to detail
Work Environment
· Must be able to work in high pressure situations facing strict deadlines
· Most time will be in the office and fab shop, but some trips to job sites and customer locations are required
· Must be familiar with job site and shop safety requirements and be prepared to wear a hard hat, work boots and safety glasses at potentially dangerous job sites
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· 3+ years experience in industrial sheet metal, fabrication, or mechanical design.
· Sheet Metal trade experience preferred
