Objective
The Fabrication Shop Manager plans, initiates, and manages all pipe, plumbing, and vessel fabrication activities while meeting technical specifications, project schedules, and quality requirements.
The fabrication lead supervisor will require a strong background in fabrication processes, labor relations and team leadership. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare work schedules, assign duties, and oversee production while tracking processes and taking measures to improve productivity and quality
Review production requirements for support operations. Work with the Director of Fabrication, CAD/BIM Manager, Project Managers, Shipping department, and others to clarify production support issues and ensure on-time shipments of product
Train employees regarding specific duties, processes, and safety, including all company/customer quality control and assurance policies/procedures
Maintain department inventory of materials and supplies by tracking inbound and outbound materials. Place orders as needed to maintain proper quantities
Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
Read blueprints, CAD drawings, material take-offs, and record/report labor hours of production to corresponding projects
Identify workplace safety hazards and take corrective action
Periodically check for up-to-date certifications and procedures for all welders and fabrication activities
Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving work problems
Maintain, organize, and file records and reports as required
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough understanding of weld procedures, processes, and quality control related to fabrication
Ability to accurately estimate mechanical work and communicate basic mechanical concepts
Thorough understanding of work rules contained in Collective Bargaining Agreements
Effective written and verbal communication skills, both professional and interpersonal
The ability to work both independently and within a team
A responsible, organized, and detail-oriented mindset
Refined time management skills and the ability to multi-task
Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, in addition to strong math and science skills
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise 20+ employees, including foreman(s) in the fabrication shop
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Modern Piping’s policies and procedures
Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Work Environment Considerations
Leadership and oversight responsibilities require consistent start times and work weeks
Must be able to work in high-pressure situations facing strict deadlines. Extended shifts may be necessary, and hours will often exceed 40 per week to perform duties effectively
Must be familiar with job site safety requirements and be prepared to wear a hard-hat, work boots, and goggles at potentially hazardous job sites
Work on construction sites will typically have more challenging access and terrain

Qualifications and Education Requirements
5+ years of fabrication knowledge and experience
