OBJECTIVE:
The Estimator I supports the estimating and preconstruction team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical construction projects. This role assists in evaluating project scope, performing quantity take-offs, and compiling labor, material, and equipment costs to support bid submissions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist senior estimators in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for mechanical construction projects
• Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to understand scope, requirements, and risks
• Perform quantity take-offs for piping, HVAC, plumbing, and/or mechanical equipment
• Assist with labor productivity analysis and material pricing
• Solicit, review, and compare vendor and subcontractor pricing
• Maintain and organize estimating files, bid documents, and correspondence
• Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, scope letters, and clarifications
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field leadership to ensure alignment between estimate and execution
• Assist with value engineering and alternate pricing when required
• Maintain awareness of current market conditions, material pricing, and labor trends
• Promote safety awareness during all estimating and preconstruction activities
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Lead project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from estimating to operations
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and estimating software as required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, and plumbing
• Strong math skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• Willingness to learn estimating methods, tools, and industry best practices
WORK ENVIRONMENT CONSIDERATIONS:
• Primarily office-based with occasional jobsite visits
• Must be able to work under tight bid deadlines and manage multiple estimates concurrently
• Jobsite visits may require wearing appropriate personal protective equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses, and work boots

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Construction Management or Construction, Mechanical, Civil, or General Engineering degree preferred
• Completion of a qualified Mechanical apprenticeship program may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Prior experience in mechanical contracting or construction estimating is preferred but not required
